Phakchok Rinpoche was born in 1981 and is a lineage holder of the Profound Treasures of Chokgyur Lingpa from the Nyingma School of Early Translations and one of the throne-holders of the Riwoche Taklung Kagyu Lineage. Phakchok Rinpoche’s primary root gurus are his grandfather, the late Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, and late Kyabje Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche.

Phakchok Rinpoche received a traditional education from the Dzongsar Shedra in India, the complete Chokling New Treasures lineage from Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche and Kyabje Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche, and the Great Perfection lineage from Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche. Rinpoche’s teaching style is direct, addressing the needs of those present; traditional, not compromising the methods of practice and transmission in the slightest; and, accessible, teaching the profound meaning in a way that is able to be understood and glimpsed by people of diverse backgrounds.

Presently, Phakchok Rinpoche is the abbot of several monasteries in Nepal. He lends assistance to various monasteries and practice centers in Tibet, presides as head of numerous dharma centers in North America and Asia, and teaches widely at centers around the world. Through organizations such as the Chokgyur Lingpa Foundation, he energetically oversees a wide range of humanitarian projects in South Asia. He is also the vajra master at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal.

As a yogi practitioner with a family and the responsibility of monastic institutions, Rinpoche is deeply familiar with both ways of life and practice. Rinpoche’s life defines what it means to be a dharma practitioner in today’s world by emphasizing that a practitioner should find a balance in their life. There should be a base of study and contemplation in order to understand the profound views of the Buddha’s teachings, and practice should be emphasized in a way that genuinely reduces ego-clinging and negative emotions through a range of methods and practices. Altruistic activity should address the needs of those in one’s community and beyond as an expression of the compassion and wisdom cultivated in practice. These are some of the main principles that Rinpoche practices and teaches to his own students.

Guru Dewa Chenpo Empowerment
On the Protector’s Day of Chotrul Dawa, the first month of the new year, all merits are multiplied. Join the Samye sangha in group dharma practice and receiving empowerment. Phakchok Rinpoche will lead a gathering in the profound Vajrayana practice of gathering the accumulations of merit and wisdom through tsok, or feast offering, to the manifestation of Guru Rinpoche that spontaneously fulfills all wishes. Furthermore, Rinpoche will bestow the empowerment of the Guru of Great Bliss, Guru Dewa Chenpo, whose blessings dispel temporary mental sufferings and imbalances, gather auspicious conditions, and bestow the realization of ultimate great bliss.

Tsok All practices on the path to buddhahood are methods for gathering the accumulations of merit and wisdom and for purifying our obscurations. These two processes of accumulation and purification go hand in hand; as we accumulate more merit and wisdom, our obscurations automatically diminish.

The Secret Mantra Vajrayana features countless skillful and powerful methods which, if they are practiced in the proper way, can make the process of accumulation and purification incredibly swift and direct. One such method is the practice of tsok, which is primarily a practice of offering. It is not just a practice of offering however; it is also a powerful method for purifying our samaya.

An immensely powerful way to perform tsok, the feast-gathering, is as a tsok bum, or 100,000 accumulations of the tsok-offering.

—Orgyen Tobgyal Rinpoche

The supreme form of merit and wisdom is to offer the profound feast-gathering on a vast scale. By making offerings within a group assembly to the deities, gurus, protectors, and vajra brothers and sisters, the two accumulations will be swiftly perfected and all the samayas are restored.

The benefits of performing the feast-gathering are thus immeasurable. Through it, you will perfect the activities of pacifying, enriching, magnetizing, and subjugating. You will restore all impairments and breakages of samaya. You will delight and satisfy the deities, gurus, oath-bound protectors, and vajra brothers and sisters. All unfavorable and unwanted circumstances will be dispelled. You will perfect the two accumulations of merit and wisdom. You will simultaneously accomplish supreme and ordinary siddhis. Through this, you will obtain benefits beyond description.
